BOSTON -- The organizers of Boston's failed bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics are disputing a state-funded consultants' report that says they underestimated costs and could have left taxpayers on the hook for significant overruns.

Boston 2024 say the Brattle Group didn't critique the detailed construction budgets organizers gave them. The organizers say the consultants' report was a "simple comparison" between Boston's plan and those of past host cities.

The 192-page report released Tuesday suggests Boston 2024 underestimated construction costs by as much as $970 million.

Gov. Charlie Baker and legislative leaders hired the consultants in June to analyze Boston's proposal and its financial implications for the state.

Boston 2024 and the U.S. Olympic Committee announced July 27 that they would end the bid after low public support and questions about finances.
