KINGSTON, Ont. - The case of three Montrealers charged with killing four family members was postponed today when they appeared in court in Kingston, Ont., via video hookup.

Mohammed Shafia, his wife Tooba Mohammed Yahya and their 18-year-old son Hamed are each charged with four counts of first-degree murder and four of conspiracy to commit murder.

The bodies of Shafia's three teenage daughters and his first wife were found in a car at the bottom of the Rideau Canal near Kingston on June 30.

Defence lawyers asked for a postponement, saying they have only received a small part of the documented evidence against their clients.

The next video conference court appearance for the three accused is Aug. 28.

The Montreal family, originally from Afghanistan, told police and news reporters the eldest daughter had secretly taken the car for a joyride.
