Uber is branching out into home delivery services with its new concept, the "Uber Corner Store."
The transport app has rolled out the temporary service in Washington DC, where it is offering a kind of "drugstore on demand," using its drivers to deliver products door to door.
Users will be able to order over 100 items, ranging from razors and gum to shampoo, condoms and bandages, depending on the availability of products in the customer's neighborhood.
The experiment will run for an undisclosed limited amount of time, but Uber says: "the more you love it, the more likely it will last."
There is no delivery fee for the service, with customers being charged only for the items ordered. The service runs Monday through Friday from 9am to 9pm.
Uber Corner Store follows the success of delivery apps such as Postmates, which launched earlier this year and allows customers to have everything from takeout to electronics delivered to their doors within one hour.
