ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Postal workers in Newfoundland and Labrador say they should have been consulted before a decision was made to eliminate 76 rural mailboxes.

The union representing the workers says residents of Portugal Cove-St. Philip's are already collecting their mail from a group box.

Canada Post says it is reviewing its service in the town and looking at an alternate method of delivery because of safety issues.

Mike McDonald of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers says he knows of only one verbal complaint about a mailbox.

He says that whenever there is an unsafe site, both sides are supposed to sit down and decide a course of action.
