RESOLUTE BAY, Nunavut - RCMP say a 23-year-old woman who walked away from the plane crash in Nunavut on Saturday rescued a seven-year-old girl who also survived.

Police say Nicole Williamson heard someone crying and found little Gabrielle Pelky sitting on a rock with a broken leg.

The pair and 48-year-old Robin Wyllie were the only survivors of the First Air crash that killed 12 people.

Another chilling story of survival involves mechanic Morgan Cox, who was supposed to be on the flight but changed his plans at the last minute so he could attend his son's 12th birthday party.

In 2008, Cox, his best friend Mike Rideout and Chesley Tibbo all survived another Arctic flight that crashed in Cambridge Bay.

This time, however, Rideout and Tibbo were on the fatal flight and perished.

No cause for the crash has been determined, but witnesses have said there was fog and a low cloud ceiling at the time.
