Finance Minister Jim Flaherty is trying something new in preparation for Tuesday’s federal budget.
He’s seeking fashion advice on Twitter.
Flaherty tweeted pictures of two different ties Monday afternoon, asking his followers to re-tweet their preferred choice.
Re-tweet if you want me to wear this tie on budget day! #cdnpoli #eap14 pic.twitter.com/uGgC5VMTMk

Flaherty is known for his love of green ties, so naturally, both choices incorporate a shade of green fabric.
The reaction to the minister’s budget day attire crowdsourcing was mixed:
.@JimFlaherty Congratulations, you just ruined the internet. Sorry everyone, Jim Flaherty ruined the internet. Turn it off :(

After falling asleep for 11 months @JimFlaherty's social media staff has woken and is being forced to take pics of his ties. #CommsFail

@JimFlaherty @sladurantaye Who is your fashion advisor? Go with conservative colours. No Red nor Orange or Pink please.

It would be fun if @JimFlaherty let Twitter choose his entire outfit every day.

I think @JimFlaherty has been taking Twitter crowd sourcing tips from @TonyclementCPC when it comes to picking ties.

It’s not clear whether Flaherty will announce his final choice of tie on Twitter, or wait until budget day to reveal it.
