A lawyer for the House of Commons wants to proceed with a case launched by the NDP against a ruling that several MPs improperly used parliamentary resources.

Documents filed in federal court on May 29 and released publicly on Monday show that the secretive Board of Internal Economy has requested a resumption of the legal proceedings.

The NDP filed the court challenge in late 2014, but nothing developed as the multi-party board and the NDP tried unsuccessfully to arrive at an out-of-court settlement.

Last year, the Board of Internal Economy ruled that several MPs used parliamentary resources for partisan activities.

The board ordered 68 past and current NDP MPs to repay $2.7 million that was used to pay staff salaries in satellite offices. It also ordered 23 NDP MPs to reimburse more than $1 million in parliamentary mailings.
