ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Newfoundland and Labrador is sending two waterbombers to help fight the more than 115 forest fires burning in northern Ontario.

A Newfoundland forestry official says the two aircraft left the province on Tuesday.

That leaves four waterbombers for use in the Atlantic province, although the other two can be called back if needed.

About 2,000 firefighters and at least 100 aircraft are already on the job in Ontario.

At least 1,500 First Nations residents have fled their homes because of nearby fires or heavy smoke.
