YARMOUTH, N.S. - A funeral will be held Monday for a Nova Scotia soldier killed in Afghanistan last month.

Sgt. Kirk Taylor of Yarmouth will be buried in his hometown with full military honours.

The 28-year-old was one of four soldiers and a journalist killed Dec. 30 when their vehicle went over an improvised explosive device during a patrol in Kandahar city.

Taylor, described by friends as a man with a "calm demeanour" who long wanted to serve in the war-torn country, was with the 84th Independent Field Battery.

Taylor divided his time between the reserves and his job at a not-for-profit agency that provides residential support for children and adults with disabilities.

Members of the 1st Field Artillery Regiment will be part of the cermoney and fire their service rifles during the internment.
