MONTREAL - The family of the teenager fatally shot by Montreal police last summer is taking legal action because it's disappointed with the conclusions of an inquiry into the death.
Fredy Villanueva's gamily has instituted proceedings against the City of Montreal, the Montreal police union and the officer who fired the fatal shot on Aug. 9.
The sum of money being sought hasn't yet been fixed.
Quebec's office of public prosecutions says the police officer acted with justified force when he drew his gun during a brawl and shot Villanueva and injured two other youths at close range.
The lawyer for the Villanueva family says the case will also be taken to the police ethics committee.
The Quebec Justice Department praised the provincial police investigation and has ordered an independent public inquiry into the incident.
