Key details from a deposition Bill Cosby gave in a civil suit filed by a woman who has publicly accused him of drugging and molesting her:

---

Cosby begins the deposition with a joke.

After being asked by the plaintiff's lawyer if he will try to remember not to give nonverbal responses, the transcript says: (Witness gestures.)

The lawyer says everyone does the same thing. Cosby replies, "This is not a new joke?"

---

Cosby describes giving what he said was Benadryl to the plaintiff, Andrea Constand, before a sexual encounter at his home. Cosby said that he described the three broken pills he brought downstairs as "friends," but that he didn't tell her it was Benadryl and gave it to her hoping that she would be able to fall asleep.

Constand thought Cosby was giving her an herbal remedy, she said in her lawsuit.

Constand did not fall asleep and Cosby testified that they had a sexual encounter.

---

Constand's attorney questions Cosby about a phone call to Constand's mother, which she recorded. Cosby says the call was confrontational but he hoped Constand would tell her mother she was awake during the encounter.

"I'm not going to argue with somebody's mother who is accusing me of something," Cosby says.

Cosby says he apologized twice because of the age difference between the two.

"I'm thinking this is a dirty old man with a young girl," he says. "I apologized."

---

Cosby described "looking for permission" to get physically closer to Constand but stopping when she declined or said not to continue. Once, when Cosby said he had exposed Constand's breasts, "Andrea said to me either one of two words, stop, no. I pull back."

---

The deposition also contains details Cosby supplied about his use of quaaludes during sexual encounters.

Cosby says he gave a woman the drug during their sexual relationship in the 1970s and, when asked if the woman knew she was taking quaaludes, Cosby replies, "I believe so."

The lawyer presses Cosby, asking, "Did you say, `here's quaaludes?"

Cosby replies, "Yes."

---

Cosby acknowledges obtaining the quaaludes from a now-deceased doctor in Los Angeles, ostensibly for back pain.

"I asked him if he would give me some of those quaaludes," Cosby says, saying the doctor asked him if he had a "bad back or anything, and I said yes."

Cosby explained that he wanted them for non-medical reasons.

"Quaaludes happen to be the drug that kids, young people were using to party with and there were times when I wanted to have them just in case," Cosby says.

---

During the first day of the second phase of his deposition, Cosby was presented with specific accusations - sometimes from a police report - from women who accused him of drugging them or making unwanted sexual advances. In each instance, Cosby denied the incidents occurred.

---

Cosby said that while he was filming a TV show in Los Angeles, a modeling agency would send "five or six" models to his studio each week. Cosby said that he had a sexual relationship with one of the teenage girls he met from the agency - she was 17 when he met her - and that he offered to help her in her career and her adjustment to New York.

---

Cosby discussed an agreement his lawyers reached with the National Enquirer to kill a story about Beth Ferrier, who accused the comedian of drugging her. As part of the agreement with the Enquirer, Cosby agreed to make an apology to his wife, and also thank the publication for "finding the killer of my son." In exchange, the magazine promised not to publish any details about Ferrier's account, and the agreement could be extended if the comedian agreed to additional exclusive interviews with the magazine.
