Author J.K. Rowling reached out to a young girl in war-torn Aleppo on Monday, after the girl's mother tweeted about watching one of the "Harry Potter" movies.

Rowling responded to a tweet from seven-year-old Bana Alabed's Twitter account, which is managed by her mother, Fatemah.

"I watched Harry Potter movie, Bana would like to read the book," Fatemah tweeted to Rowling.

"Bana, I hope you do read the book, because I think you'd like it," Rowling replied. "Sending you lots and lots of love xxx."

Fatemah responded by asking for help obtaining one of the books, prompting many others who read the conversation to step in with offers of help.

Bana Alabed's verified Twitter account has more than 87,000 followers, and routinely tweets about the war in Syria. "I and my mom are tweeting live from East Aleppo," her profile description says.

Aleppo has been locked in a state of constant warfare for the last four years, with Syrian government and rebel forces battling one another and clashing with the Islamic State for control.
