A dog that was stolen from outside of a grocery store in Toronto has been reunited with its owner after teens found the dog with a passed-out homeless man.

The three-year-old German Shepherd named Charlie was left tied outside of a grocery store on Oct. 19 while its owner was inside. The dog’s owner eventually returned to find that the dog was gone.

The owner reported the missing dog to police, who then issued a news release on Friday. They also released photos of both the man and the dog.

On Oct. 20, a group of teens walked by a passed-out homeless man with a dog nearby. The teens did not know this was the missing dog, but told police that they didn’t feel like the man could take care of the dog in his condition.

“They took the dog to a vet, who recognized the dog from the press release,” said Const. David Hopkinson.

The vet then called police who then contacted the owner who positively identified the dog as Charlie.

There was no indication as to why the dog was taken but the owner has decided not to press charges
