Vancouver police say that the body of "Growing Pains" actor Andrew Koenig has been found in Stanley Park.

It is believed that Koenig was last seen in Vancouver on Feb. 14. He was 41 at the time of his death.

"My son took his own life," said father Walter Koenig, who spoke at a press conference in Vancouver on Thursday afternoon.

The elder Koenig is famous for playing the character Chekov in the original "Star Trek" television series.

In the days after Koenig went missing, his father revealed that his son suffered from depression.

"We've already said what a great guy he was and (what) a good human being. He was obviously in a lot of pain," said the elder Koenig.

Family members had expressed concern for Andrew after he didn't show up for a Feb. 16 flight from Vancouver to Los Angeles.

Andrew Koening is best known as the character Richard "Boner" Stabone on the 80s sitcom "Growing Pains."

His father added that since his son's disappearance, he has been flooded with hundreds of emails from people who also suffer from depression.

"If you can learn anything from this, it's that there are people out there who really care," he said.

"So before you make that final decision, check it out and talk to somebody."

Vancouver police found Koenig's body around noon on Thursday after several days of searching.

"This is no doubt a very difficult time in their lives," said Vancouver Police spokeswoman Const. Jana McGuinness.
