A Mississauga, Ont. couple pulled off the highway en route to the hospital early Thursday morning to give birth to a new baby girl.

Kwasi Agyeman said his wife Roxanne Henry gave birth to their daughter right in their SUV after they pulled off of Highway 403, near Eglinton Avenue East and Huron Heights Drive, at around 5 a.m.

"So far everything is OK, everyone's health. It was a fast delivery," Agyeman told CTV News. "It happened so fast. She said this morning that she was having contractions, but I didn't think it was contractions."

After calling 911, Agyeman decided they had time to drive to the hospital before the baby came. The Mississauga couple was en route to Credit Valley Hospital when the baby came.

Agyeman's mother-in-law was following behind them in another car.

Agyeman said he pulled his SUV off the highway and, the next thing he knew he was a father for the second time. The couple already has one daughter.

"As I'm driving all I hear is ‘Waa,' the baby crying just like that. It happened that fast," Agyeman said. "Another girl. The father of two girls, so I'm excited. Big job, big headaches."

Paramedics arrived shortly after the birth and took the mother and her new daughter to Credit Valley Hospital by ambulance. Both were in good health.

The baby will be named Maya Alice Agyeman, the proud papa said.
