Vancouver's latest murder victim has been identified as James Edward O'Toole, an aspiring singer who performed under the name Jed Cruz.

O'Toole was shot to death in the back of a taxi Saturday morning. Police suspect he may have been intentionally targeted.

Local reports suggest he was known to police and officials alleged he may have had links to organized crime, but that has not been confirmed.

By late Sunday, there was no mention of his death on his website, www.jedcruz.com, although mourners had posted their respects to a Facebook group.

One read: "The right words escape me. Time was stolen from you as it was from all of us with you. RIP. You are missed and loved from everyone."

A biography on the singer's website says O'Toole was born in Ireland, grew up in British Columbia and spent time living in Australia.

O'Toole is Vancouver's 14th homicide victim of the 2008.
