EDMONTON - Canada's military justice watchdog has announced it will hold a public hearing into the death of an Edmonton-based soldier who committed suicide.
The Military Police Complaints Commission says the concerns around the death of Cpl. Stuart Langridge deserve open examination because they go right to the heart of military justice.
Langridge's parents say their son was suffering from depression and post-traumatic stress disorder at the time of his death.
They say the original investigation was biased and intended to absolve the military of any blame.
The commission decided last spring that a review of that investigation was required.
A commission spokesman says holding a public hearing demonstrates how serious the questions into Langridge's death remain.
