TORONTO - The KFC Double Down sandwich is becoming the political hot potato of the week at the Ontario legislature.
The 540-calorie Double Down -- a bun-less concoction featuring bacon, cheese and sauce sandwiched between two slabs of fried chicken -- went on sale in Canada Monday.
Almost immediately, Ontario's health promotion minister caused a stir when she said the province may review the sale of the Double Down, a position she quickly reversed.
Premier Dalton McGuinty says he wants to assure people "there is not a colonel of truth" to reports the government planned to investigate the Double Down.
McGuinty says he was "doubled over" when he heard about what the government had said about the Double Down and then retracted.
On Wednesday, three Conservative members of the legislature stood outside the chamber sharing a Double Down to highlight what they say is McGuinty's obsession with managing people's lives.
