TORONTO - Premier Dalton McGuinty says he's seriously considering a law that would ban people from smoking in cars carrying kids.

McGuinty once called the ban a slippery slope which infringed too much on people's rights.

But he says he's being lobbied heavily by his minister of health promotion and a Liberal backbencher who introduced a private member's bill which would ban the practice.

McGuinty says he's now going to take a `second look' at bringing in a ban when the legislature resumes sitting in a couple of weeks.

Opposition critics say it's high time Ontario joined the ranks of other provinces by protecting children from the dangers of second-hand smoke.

Nova Scotia recently banned smoking in cars where kids are present and the British Columbia government promised a ban in its recent throne speech.
