NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania - A justice official says that Moammar Gadhafi's ex-intelligence chief was indicted overnight and was transferred to the local prison early on Monday.

Abdullah al-Senoussi is wanted by the International Criminal Court, as well as by France and Libya for alleged crimes committed during his time as one of Gadhafi's closest associates.

On the run since the fall of Tripoli, al-Senoussi attempted to enter the Nouakchott airport in March disguised as a Tuareg chieftain. The official, who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press, said that al-Senoussi is being indicted for "illegally entering Mauritania using false identity documents" in March.

In Mauritania, indictments are issued following a secret proceeding. The matter becomes public once the trial opens.
