WINNIPEG - Manitoba Tories are calling for public hearings on the government's response to this year's flooding.

Opposition Leader Hugh McFadyen says an independent review is needed to find out why some flood forecasts were wrong.

The province was caught off guard by a surging Assiniboine River that threatened to flood parts of Brandon in May.

Later, the province deliberately flooded land near Hoop and Holler Bend, but faced questions as to whether the cut was needed.

McFadyen says public confidence in the provincial flood forecasts has been damaged, and a public review will find out what went wrong.

Premier Greg Selinger says the government acted on the best advice available, and an internal review is being done to find out if improvements are needed.
