TORRANCE, Calif. - An Orange County engineer has pleaded not guilty to murdering a Canadian nurse in Southern California nearly 30 years ago.

Los Angeles County prosecutors say 57-year-old Douglas Bradford entered his plea Thursday in Torrance Superior Court.

He is accused of strangling and stabbing Lynne Knight more than 15 times at her home in Torrance in August 1979.

Knight was born in Alberta and raised in Stratford, Ont.

The district attorney's office says Bradford and Knight had dated and broke up.

Prosecutors say Bradford was arrested in Costa Mesa last month after old-fashioned police work cracked the cold case.
