David Gregory, chief of the St. Thomas Fire Department, will retire in May following more than three decades of service. Gregory served as a firefighter for 20 years before being promoted to captain. He was appointed fire chief in March 2022. “It’s been like winning the lottery,” Gregory said in a media release. “I grew up in the courthouse district, not far from the original fire station, and to spend my entire career serving the community where I was born and raised has been incredibly rewarding.” The city said recruitment efforts to find Gregory’s successor will begin in the coming months.
