Some IVF are now on hold at a south London fertility centre following the discovery of “unexpected fertility outcomes”

Some in-vitro fertilization services (IVF) are now on hold at a south London fertility centre following the discovery of “unexpected fertility outcomes” during a round of IVF cycles performed earlier this year.

In a news release, Omega says in mid-January 2026, its clinical team observed “unexpected fertilization outcomes” during IVF cycles performed on Jan. 15, 16, and 17.

The clinic says while variability can occur in fertility treatment, the results observed during that time “were not consistent with typical laboratory outcomes,” adding there is no indication patients were exposed to any safety risk.

“Because of this, our physicians and laboratory team made the proactive decision to temporarily pause IVF laboratory services while we conducted a full and immediate laboratory review,” the clinic said. “This decision was made out of an abundance of caution to ensure that every patient receives the best possible treatment under conditions that meet the high standards we set for our program.”

During the review period, the following reproductive services will be paused:

• IVF and ICSI cycles
• Egg freezing (oocyte cryopreservation)
• Donor egg cycles
• Embryo transfers

Omega says when unexpected outcomes occur in an IVF laboratory, it’s “important” to review “every possible factor” that may influence results, including equipment performance, environmental conditions, laboratory procedures and quality control systems.

“While we did not identify a clear explanation for the outcomes observed, we chose to take the additional step of bringing in an independent IVF laboratory expert with experience auditing and designing fertility laboratories,” the clinic said.

The clinic says it is working to restore services as soon as possible, adding once the external review and validation and testing processes are completed, IVF laboratory services will resume.

“We recognize how difficult this pause may be for patients and families who have been preparing for treatment,” the clinic said. “Fertility treatment requires significant emotional, physical, and financial commitment. We understand how difficult it can be when treatment plans are unexpectedly disrupted.”

Omega says physicians have been speaking directly to affected patients to discuss individual care plans.
