The ‘Waite’ is over for Ottawa Rapid FC fans. The Northern Super League (NSL) club has signed Sadie Waite of St. Thomas, Ont. to a two-year deal as their first addition to the roster for the 2026 season. “I’m super excited to be joining Ottawa Rapid FC,” Waite said in a social media post. “Being able to start my professional career in Ottawa is a testament to all of my past coaches and teammates who helped me in this goal. I’m so excited for this opportunity!” Waite was a four-season force at Nebraska University with 73 appearances, 68 starts, and over 5,700 minutes on the pitch. The midfielder contributed 8 goals and 10 assists, including a final season where she started every match and logged more than 1,500 minutes. “She reads the game, she controls the pace and she’s fearless in the middle,” said Rapid technical director Kristina Kriss. “Waite is a midfielder with intelligence, vision, and a fearless approach to the game. She can split lines, control the pace, and create chances for her teammates. She scored her first career brace in Nebraska’s NCAA First Round win over SDSU, helping the Huskers reach their program-best third trip to the Elite Eight and capture a Big Ten regular season title. She’s also proven herself internationally as a U20 World Cup Team Canada member. The middle of the pitch just got stronger, and Sadie is ready to make her mark in Ottawa.” Waite described following the development and start of the NSL. “I’m so beyond grateful that I now get the opportunity to play back in my home country,” Waite added. “With tons of support from my family and friends, I will bring a very technical and composed style of play that complements a lot of the amazing current players on the roster. Can’t wait to get started!” Waite will join Dorchester, Ont. Midfielder Julia Benati who played with the Rapid in their inaugural season.
