Port Elgin’s indoor pool will ultimately be closing, filled in, and possibly turned into classrooms. That’s the expected plan, following a proposed sale that would see the Bluewater District School Board buy the Centennial Pool property from the Town of Saugeen Shores. The Centennial Pool, built in 1975, will become redundant once the Pryde Aquatic and Wellness Centre is completed, which is expected to happen this November. The Centennial Pool, which is attached to Saugeen District Senior School, is likely to be turned into classrooms, according to officials. “This agreement is truly a win-win for both the town and the school board,” said Town of Saugeen Shores Mayor, Luke Charbonneau. “As we prepare for a new chapter of recreation in Saugeen Shores, we are thrilled to see this space reimagined to benefit the youth of our growing community,” he said. The town will decommission the Centennial Pool following the opening of the Pryde Aquatic and Wellness Centre.
