A London man is facing multiple charges after a police standoff in the city’s southeast end earlier this week. The London Police Service says officers were called to a home on Frontenac Road at about 6:05 a.m. Monday for a welfare check. Upon arrival, police learned the man had barricaded himself inside the home. Members of the Emergency Response Unit were called in and nearby roads were closed while officers attempted to negotiate with him. Police allege the man exited the residence shortly after 7 a.m. and threw an object toward officers. No injuries were reported. Investigators say he then threw another object at the windshield of a London police light armoured vehicle before retreating back inside the home. The vehicle was not damaged. About 10 minutes later, police say the man emerged from the residence armed with a knife and uttered threats toward officers. Negotiations continued while police maintained containment of the property. At about 10:05 a.m., the man exited the residence and was taken into custody without injury. As a result of the investigation, a 20-year-old of London is charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, failing to comply with a release order, and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
