The centre paused its operations after encountering unforeseen results in its fertilization processes. Both an internal investigation and an independent external assessment were conducted to understand the cause. While the reviews did not identify a single definitive cause for the unexpected outcomes, leadership opted to procure new equipment to further strengthen the laboratory’s environmental systems and improve treatment conditions. Clinic officials stressed that throughout this period, there have been no indications of any risk to patient safety. Furthermore, they confirmed that all embryos and genetic material currently in cryostorage were unaffected by the situation and remain securely stored. The additional equipment, designed to enhance the laboratory’s environmental systems, has cleared customs and is currently en route to the clinic. Delivery is anticipated within the next week, with installation expected to commence immediately upon arrival and take approximately two days. Following the installation, the Omega Fertility Centre will begin a critical phase of internal validation testing, which is designed to confirm that the laboratory environment is performing precisely as expected under the new systems. This validation process is projected to take about two weeks. If installation and validation progress according to plan, the clinic is hopeful that full IVF laboratory services could resume in the second half of May. Leadership cautioned that this is not yet a confirmed reopening date but represents the most responsible and clear timeframe currently available, with final timing dependent on the validation process results. “We know this process has been long and difficult, especially for those of you whose treatment plans have been on hold since January,” stated the Medical Directors, Dr. Jackie Hollett-Caines and Dr. Angelos Vilos, in a communication to patients. “We want to be careful with that wording: this is not yet a confirmed reopening date. It is the best current timeframe we can responsibly share.”
