In an effort to re-establish a board of directors at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), Ron Sapsford has been named chair. Sapsford has been a board member of the Middlesex Hospital Alliance (MHA) for the past two years and has served as chair for the past year. He will transition to his new role Sept. 30. The appointment follows LHSC’s announcement that it is recruiting members for its renewed board after two years of what the organization called work to strengthen the organization’s governance, leadership, operations, policies and procedures under the leadership of provincial supervisor David Musyj. “Over the past two years, we have built the governance structures, accountability processes, and oversight mechanisms needed to support a high-performing board,” said Musyj. “We now require an experienced and respected leader to help guide our renewed board and ensure strong governance well into the future. Ron Sapsford has dedicated his career to improving Ontario’s health-care system, and his experience and leadership make him exceptionally well suited for this role.” Sapsford holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of Toronto and a master of health administration degree from the University of Ottawa. He is also a senior fellow and adjunct professor in the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. “LHSC is one of Canada’s leading academic health sciences centres and plays a vital role in advancing patient care, research and education,” said Sapsford. “I have long admired the dedication of LHSC’s staff, credentialed professional staff, researchers, volunteers, learners and leadership. I am honoured to serve as chair and look forward to working with the renewed board and the organization as LHSC continues to strengthen its governance and build for the future.”
