A sudden death investigation is underway after a body was discovered in a wooded area following a controlled burn that got out of control in Elgin County. According to a news release, at approximately 5:27 p.m. on June 4, Elgin County OPP and the Malahide Fire Department were dispatched to an address on Avon Drive for a controlled burn that was out of control. Police say a 92-year-old resident of Malahide was located deceased in the wooded area. Members of the Elgin County Crime Unit, the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Office of the Fire Marshall were contacted. Police say the incident has been deemed not suspicious in nature.
