Construction is now underway on a new supportive housing community in the city’s south end that will provide a stable environment for Canada’s veterans. Located on the grounds of Parkwood Institute, the London Veterans Village will provide a “safe, stable, and dignified environment where veterans can heal, rebuild and thrive,” according to a news release. The village will include 25 transitional supportive homes, a resource centre, community gardens, and access to various supports “designed to foster independence and long-term success.” The Homes For Heroes project is anticipated to open in late summer 2026. “The start of construction marks an exciting and meaningful step forward for Homes For Heroes and for the veterans we serve,” said Homes For Heroes Foundation President and CEO Brad Field. “This village represents more than just housing, it’s about restoring dignity, creating community, and providing the supports veterans need to successfully transition to independent living.” For veterans facing housing insecurity, trauma, or challenges transitioning to civilian life, the London Veterans Village will offer a path forward with a focus on “stability, respect, and opportunity,” the release adds. Residents will benefit from tailored programs and on-site support that will address their individual needs and empower them to move forward with confidence. “Homes For Heroes is proud to see shovels in the ground and this vision becoming a reality,” said Peter Devlin, chair of the London H4H Steering Committee and Fanshawe College president. “This milestone reflects the strength of our community and the shared commitment to ensuring that veterans have access to the care, housing, and support they deserve. The London Veterans Village will be a vital part of addressing veteran homelessness in our region,” he added.
