As the second week of testimony got underway at the second-degree murder trial of 26-year-old Zachary McDermott, the jury heard forensic evidence surrounding shooting at the Tim Hortons on Dundas Street East on Sept. 12, 2018. London Police Detective Andrea McGrath-Wheatley testified about collecting photo evidence from the bloody scene in the hours following the gunfire. “There was some staining believed to be blood on the doorway,” said McGrath-Wheatley. When referring to another photo, she said, “There is staining that is consistent with blood on the floor.” The jury heard that bullet casings were also found in the coffee shop as well as in a laneway outside in the parking lot. Christopher Clements-Card, 21, of London died after being shot twice in the back. McDermott, who was 18 at the time of the incident, has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder. The trial resumes on Tuesday.
