Officials at Fanshawe College say they’re looking for community partners to keep the student-run radio station operational. They say 106.9 The X faces a significant deficit. Back in April, the college announced future intakes for 40 programs were suspended, including the broadcasting radio and media production program. Fanshawe officials say without future students, the college won’t be able to financially support the radio station - but they are looking at options right now. “We don’t want to lose the radio station, but we can’t continue to operate it at significant financial loss every year and without the majority of the students who participate in the operations of the station,” Senior Vice President Academic Susan Cluett said in a statement. The college says without future students in the program beyond April 2026, it will be unable to continue operations of the radio station. “We value deeply the contributions made by thousands of faculty, staff and students who have learned their craft at the station over almost 50 years and are proud of the fact many of our graduates have gone on to successful careers in broadcasting in Ontario and around the world,” Cluett said.
