Deceased body pulled from St. Thomas, Ont. park identified as man missing since November

A body pulled from Waterworks Park in St. Thomas, Ont. Friday has been identified as a man missing since for over four months. CTV's Brent Lale reports.

A body pulled from Waterworks Park in St. Thomas, Ont. Friday has been identified as a man missing for over four months.

The St. Thomas Police Forensic Identification team was investigating at Waterworks Park Friday Apr. 3, 2026 after someone discovered a deceased man.

Just before 1pm, the ST. Thomas Police Service (STPS) police called in the St. Thomas Fire Department (STFD) to assist with a body which was discovered on the west side of Kettle Creek at the park.

Officers cordoned off an area at the park, while the STFD water rescue unit responded to the area near the damn.

The body was in a bushy area on the bank, while fire fighters waded across the waist-high creek to get to the body.

They used a Stokes basket to retrieve the body and bring it back to the east side of the creek before getting it to the coroner.

Late Friday night police identified the person as 50-year old Ruhirwa Nzabonimpa.

Nzabonimpa had been missing since mid-November and was the subject of multiple search and rescue missions in the area of Waterworks Park and the Dalewood area.

Police say the death is currently not believed to be suspicious.

This is the second body found in the park in the last four months, neither death involved foul play.
