Make it three London, Ont. natives in the National Football League. Taylor Elgersma signed a contract with the Green Bay Packers Monday according to NFL Insider Tom Pelissero. “Former Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks QB Taylor Elgersma signed with the Packers today, per his agent Craig Schaeffer,” Pelissero wrote on social media platform X. “Elgersma, who won Canada’s version of the Heisman last year, tried out at Green Bay’s rookie camp over the weekend. Now, pen to paper.” The Packers confirmed Pelissero’s statement on Monday afternoon, and stated that he will wear number 19 with the Packers. Elgersma, an Oakridge Secondary School graduate, joins twins Chase and Sydney Brown as Londoners in the NFL.He is the first Londoner to come from USports since Western Defensive Lineman Vaughn Martin. Elgersma also becomes the fourth Canadian university QB to ink an NFL deal, and the first since Steve Samways caught on with the Cincinnati Bengals in 1987, according to 3 Down Nation. The London, Ont., native was the first quarterback from a Canadian university to participate in the NCAA’s Senior Bowl. He completed four of his seven pass attempts for a total of 57 yards in the annual all-star game featuring draft eligible players for the NFL. Elgersma was not selected in the NFL draft last month. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers selected Elgersma 18th overall, in the second round of the 2025 CFL Draft.
