American charged with careless driving after SUV crashes into transport truck on Highway 401

A resident of Illinois is facing a careless driving charge following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 401 in Middlesex County on New Year’s Day.

According to a news release from Middlesex County OPP, at 6:23 p.m. on Jan. 1, police, paramedics and fire crews responded to the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 just west of Dorchester Road in Thames Centre for a two-vehicle collision.

Police say an SUV lost control and crashed into a transport truck.

Three occupants from the SUV were transported to hospital, one with life-threatening-injuries, however their injuries have since been downgraded to non-life-threatening.

The eastbound lanes were initially closed at Westchester Bourne, with a single lane being kept opened to help keep traffic flowing while emergency crews removed the vehicles.

As a result of the crash, a 51-year-old individual from Illinois has been charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
