A Toronto man proposed to his “Princess Zelda” on Saturday afternoon, surrounded by fellow fantasy fans dressed up costumes and his young son.

JR Gallarza’s girlfriend Holly Wolf regularly dresses up in a blue outfit and pointy ears to mimic Princess Zelda, a character in games like ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.’

“I just couldn’t really see myself proposing in any other way than doing it where she’s at her most comfortable,” Gallarza told CTV Toronto.

Gallarza met the woman of his dreams two years ago in the Philippines. A quip about Gallarza’s height quickly turned into love at first sight, he said.

But everything rested on the opinion of his young son. “I asked my son, ‘Hey, do you like Holly?’” Gallarza reminisced. “And he was like, ‘No – I love her!’ And I was like, ‘Okay, cool. Me too.’”

To pop the big question on Saturday, Gallarza enlisted the help of both his and Wolf’s family.

“JR’s a great guy,” Wolf’s mother told CTV Toronto. “And just the level of planning that he put into this, and how much he loves Holly -- that’s what every mom wants for their daughter, somebody’s who’s just going to adore her.”

Together, the families delivered a bouquet of blue roses to Wolf as she worked on the convention centre floor, leaving the woman perplexed.

“I really don’t know what to do!” she said.

With his son in a matching shirt, bowtie and suspenders at this side, Gallarza then got down on one knee and popped the question

“Will you marry me?” he asked.

Her answer was an ecstatic “yes!”
