Fashion fever is upon us, and the world is focusing its lens on New York, where the first of the major Spring/Summer 2016 collections will be exposed on the city's catwalks.

A shake-up in the organization of the event by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CDFA) means that there is much to get excited about this season. For a start, the shows, many of which traditionally take place at Lincoln Center, are set to take place at the new locations of Skylight at Moynihan Station and Skylight Clarkson Sq on Washington Street in West SoHo, with several top designers also opting for various chic and top-secret addresses all over town.

In addition to new locations there is also a breathy anticipation regarding prolific new designers -- notably DKNY's two new creative directors Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne, from the label Public School. DKNY's show on Sept.16 will be the first to reveal the duo's new influence on the iconic American label.

However, long-standing designers will also get their slice of the action. Alexander Wang, whose departure from Balenciaga earlier this summer rocked the fashion world, is celebrating 10 years of success with his eponymous label, and all eyes will surely be on his new collection now that the house is once again his entire focus. Riccardo Tisci is also attempting to steal the show by bringing luxury French house Givenchy's show to the Big Apple to mark the opening of the label's new Madison Avenue flagship store, and both the fashion elite and hundreds of lucky members of the public will have the chance to witness it.

Speaking of accessibility for the masses, Ralph Lauren is teaming up with live-streaming app Periscope for a digital fashion first which will see the label's New York Sept.17 show simultaneously broadcast in London on a big screen in the UK capital's Piccadilly Circus. Tennis champion and designer Serena Williams is also livestreaming her Signature Statement Collection and has partnered with HSN to make the line available to purchase immediately after the show.

Elsewhere in the fashion industry's increasingly important online universe, Instagram will be debuting its new initiative "The Best of Fashion Week Updated Daily By @Instagram." The concept will collate snaps demonstrating the daily highlights of the wonderful beast that is New York Fashion Week.
