It's the coolest room in Cambridge, Mass., and it could be yours to stay in for $13 a night – if it doesn't melt first.

A U.S. man is offering overnight stays in his backyard igloo through Airbnb, a service that helps travellers find short-term room rentals without paying hotel prices.

"This is an igloo. Yes. It is very cool," says the online posting. The igloo apparently sleeps one person, or two "if curled up." Visitors also have access to the bathroom and kitchen inside the house.

"Tarp and yoga mattress provided," the posting says. "You'll need to bring your own sleeping bag."

The igloo is up for Airbnb's lowest allowable rate - $10 U.S., or $13 Canadian.

Property owner Pierre says he learned the art of igloo-building on a trip through Siberia, according to his Airbnb profile. Pierre's cancellation policy is flexible and he already has two visitors booked for the igloo – if it doesn't melt first.

Temperatures in Cambridge are expected to reach highs of 1 degree Celsius through much of this week, though overnight lows will be comfortably frigid for an igloo campout.

Pierre has an igloo guest booked for Saturday night, but his calendar is pretty clear for the rest of the month.

In fact, it's wide open starting in March and extending into the summer.

An igloo is perhaps the strangest $13 posting on Airbnb, but it's not the only one.

  • A user in Paris, France is offering to share his bed with up to two strangers for $13 a night.
  • A woman in Hong Kong offers renters the chance to "relive the Umbrella Revolution" by staying in a quarter-sized tent in her apartment.
  • A New York artist is offering a dirt-cheap room with one caveat: visitors must be social media friends who have never met in real life, and they must spend 24 hours together in the room.

If those postings give you the shivers, the igloo might be cozy by comparison.
