Lesters Montreal Smoked Meat pouches recalled

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning the public to avoid Lesters brand Montreal Smoked Meat pouches. The agency says the product may be contaminated with listeria and was distributed in Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada.

The affected product is sold in 100 gram packages with a best before date between July 16 and July 24.

There have been no reported illnesses linked to the product.

Lesters Foods of Laval, Que., is voluntarily recalling the affected product.

Earlier this week, consumers from B.C. to Ontario were asked to toss pre-cooked meat products purchased from Smith's Quality Meats. The Winnipeg food company recalled a variety of products after testing indicated they may have come into contact with listeria.

In 2008, 22 people across Canada died after eating deli meats contaminated with listeria from Maple Leaf Foods.
