SEOUL, South Korea - North and South Korean experts have agreed on the need for joint research into an active volcano amid worries over natural disasters after Japan's earthquake and tsunami.
Geologists and volcanologists met at a South Korean border village Tuesday for talks on volcanic activities at the North's Mount Paektu, touted in the North as leader Kim Jong Il's birthplace.
Chief South Korean negotiator and geologist Ryu In-chang says the two Koreas realize they need to research the volcano.
But he says North Korea proposed one more round of experts' talks in early April and South Korea plans to respond soon.
The volcano last erupted in 1903, but minor earthquakes increased there between 2002 and 2005.
