Guelph Police say three people crossing the street were hit by vehicles within two hours on Wednesday afternoon. “Fortunately, none of the injuries were considered life-threatening,” they wrote in a media release. The first collision happened at the intersection of Cassino Avenue and William Street just after 1:30 p.m. Police said a man in his 20s was struck at the crosswalk and taken to hospital with minor injuries. At 3:15 p.m., another collision was reported to police. A woman called from Guelph General Hospital to say she was behind the wheel when she hit a pedestrian crossing the road at Gordon Street and Arkell Road. The driver told police the victim had injuries to their face and she decided to drive them to the hospital. Emergency responders were called minutes later to Eramosa Road and Stevenson Street North for yet another crash. Police said a woman in her 70s was using a crosswalk when she was hit by a driver making a left turn. She was transported to hospital with what was believed to be a broken arm. The three drivers were charged under the Highway Traffic Act. “All road users are urged to slow down and be aware of their surroundings,” Guelph Police said in the release, adding, “Always attempt to make eye contact with other users so everyone’s intentions are clear.”
