A big second-half push by the Guelph Gryphons wasn’t enough to complete the comeback, as they fell 37-30 to the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks in Saturday’s OUA football semifinal. Laurier jumped out to a 27-0 halftime lead before Guelph rallied with four touchdowns in the second half, led by quarterback Marshall McCray, who threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns while adding another on the ground. The Gryphons cut the deficit to one score late in the fourth quarter, but their final drive stalled near midfield as time expired. Receiver Harry Varty caught two touchdowns for Guelph, while Laurier quarterback Cal Wither led the Golden Hawks with 369 passing yards and two scores. The loss ends Guelph’s season, while Laurier advances to the Yates Cup final next Saturday against Queen’s University.
