Construction on Guelph’s newest high school is set to begin in the next few weeks. An excavator arrived at 388 Arkell Road as the Upper Grand District School Board prepares to begin building the new high school almost three months after the official groundbreaking last November. When finished, the new facility will have space for 900 students, a fully equipped science wing, a six-lane running track, a double gymnasium and a double-sided stage connected to theatre arts and music classrooms. The building will also include solar panels and a special roof to prevent global heat island effect, a phenomenon that occurs when closely packed buildings and paved surfaces trap and amplify heat. The school is set to open in September 2026.
