A man and a woman have been arrested following an incident in Hanover that saw a police officer injured and several cars damaged. Hanover Police said the incident began Sunday shortly before 2 a.m., when officers tried to stop a vehicle on Fourth Avenue near Ninth Street, with the driver fleeing the area at a fast speed when approached. Officers responding then successfully used a spike belt to stop the vehicle. The driver then blew through a stop sign and collided head-on with a police cruiser with an officer inside it on 10th Street. The officer involved in the collision was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Those in the suspect vehicle were not injured. Both vehicles had suffered significant front-end damage. The vehicle then stopped further up the same street and two suspects fled the area on foot. A foot chase ensued, leading to the arrest of the two suspect half an hour later. Further investigation following the arrest revealed both suspects were subject to bail conditions prohibiting contact with one another. The driver was also suspended from driving and was found to be under the influence of both alcohol and drugs with open liquor inside the vehicle, according to investigators. A 28-year-old Haldimand County man was charged with two counts of driving under suspension and one count of impaired driving, dangerous operation, flight from police, fail to remain, breach of undertaking, and having open liquor in a motor vehicle. A 23-year-old Cambridge woman was charged with breach of undertaking.
