A cannabis licencing body on Six Nations of the Grand River will be shutting down. On Thursday, Six Nations of the Grand River announced the elected council had repealed the Six Nations Cannabis Control Law and Cannabis Control Regulations, effective immediately. The regulation was introduced in 2021 and allowed people interested in cultivating or manufacturing and selling cannabis products to apply for a licence through the Six Nations Cannabis Commission. The elected council cited ongoing challenges with compliance, enforcement and financial stability as factors in their decision. They said, when they started collecting public feedback on the issue on May 29, there was only one licenced business in the community. A news release also said Six Nations spend $4.86 million on regulation within its jurisdiction.
