Schools closed, buses cancelled on Monday after winter storm hits southwestern Ontario

School boards in the region began announcing closures early Sunday evening due to a significant winter storm that hammered southwestern Ontario over the weekend.

All schools and sites operated by the Waterloo Catholic District School Board, the Waterloo Region District School Board, the Wellington Catholic District School Board and the Upper Grand District School Board are closed Monday.

All school buses, taxis and special education transportation operated by the boards have been cancelled.

Before and after school programs, as well as childcare centres located in schools, will not operate.

Community use programs scheduled in school facilities will not run.

Programs and services offered through St. Louis Continuing Education and Adult Learning Centres are also cancelled.

The closures will also affect secondary school exams. All public and Catholic secondary school exams scheduled for Monday will be postponed to the next school day.

School boards have not said when normal operations are expected to resume.

Post-secondary closures

Wilfrid Laurier University, the University of Waterloo and the University of Guelph have suspended classes on Monday due to the weather.

Conestoga College campuses are also closed.

All schools said they plan to reopen on Tuesday.
