Pre-schoolers at Rising Oaks Early Learning in Kitchener took part a lemon juicing competition on Wednesday, with a little help from Waterloo Region’s first responders. The participants were each given all the essentials needed to run a lemonade stand. The event helped kick off the third annual LemonAID campaign, organized by the Family and Children’s Services (FACS) Foundation, with proceeds going to help local kids at summer camps. Catherine Millar, an early childhood educator at Rising Oaks, explained how vital it was for them to be a part of the campaign. “It’s the community outreach. We love helping the community,” she told CTV News. “Sending kids to camp who can’t otherwise afford it, it’s a great way [to help], and who can say no to those smiling, little faces?” The main LemonAID event will be held on June 6. Lemonade stands will also be set up throughout Waterloo Region this summer.
