Police in Haldimand County are looking for whoever is responsible for two swatting calls in a two-day period. Swatting refers to someone reporting a false emergency in the hopes of provoking a large police response. On Tuesday, the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a fake bomb threat at a home on Haldimand Road 53, near Jarvis, at 8:10 p.m. The next day, emergency services raced to a local school after they received a similar call at 1:35 p.m. The school went into lockdown while investigators made sure the threat was unfounded. In both cases, the calls were made to 911. Anyone caught intentionally misusing the emergency line by making a false call can be criminally charged. The investigation continues and anyone with more information is urged to contact police.
