Guelph Police are investigating after they said a pedestrian was hit by a driver who allegedly offered cash not to report it. Guelph Police were called to the intersection of Wellington Street East and Neeve Street just before 2:30 a.m. where they found a person sitting on the ground. After further investigation, officers learned the victim was hit while walking on the crosswalk. Police said when he was hit, he went airborne before landing on the road “The driver of the car stopped down the road, then came on foot to check on the victim,” police said in a media release. “He offered to drive the victim home and then offered $300 not to report the collision. When witnesses suggested he needed an ambulance, the driver returned to his car and fled.” The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. Police said the suspect was described as a white man, aged 18 to 23-years-old, 5’8” to 5’9” with a thin build, blonde or light brown hair that was shorter on the sides and curly on top. He was last seen wearing a light-coloured t-shirt and shorts. The suspect was driving an older red compact car that may have been a Toyota or Nissan.
